Updates from the Safeguarding Office

Diocese of Hallam Audit

Since our last update in July 2024 the Safeguarding Office have been working hard to implement the recommendations of our recent audit, whilst bringing these into our ongoing developmental Action Plan for further development of safeguarding practice within the Diocese.

Our audit outcomes can be accessed via the following link: https://catholicsafeguarding.org.uk/audits-and-reports/cssa-audit-reports/

There will also be an open session at Hallam Pastoral Centre on Tuesday 3rd December 2024 between 6.00-7.00pm, where the Chair of the Safeguarding Committee – Catherine Bailey will present the audit outcomes and provide an opportunity for you to meet with the safeguarding team.  The session is open to all who may wish to attend.

Police Officer Representative for Hallam Trustee Safeguarding Committee

We are pleased to report that Detective Inspector Matthew Bolger will be joining the Safeguarding Committee and RAM (Risk Assessment and Management Group) meetings from November 2024.

DI Bolger is from the Major Crime Unit of South Yorkshire Police and is also a PIP3 accredited Senior Investigating Officer.  We are extremely grateful to DI Bolger for agreeing to attend our meetings and his contribution, knowledge and expertise will be invaluable to the safeguarding team.

Safer Together: How we contribute to keeping others safe across our Ministries

As a community, we all have a role in ensuring that our Churches are safe places.

The ongoing cost of living crisis continues to have an impact on many of our parishioners. The strength of community support and engagement is vital in responding to the needs and challenges that others may face.

Our Parish Safeguarding Reps regularly share with us the good work of their parish, whether this is by being a member of their parish care group who take the time to visit others in the community who may be experiencing isolation and loneliness.  Or, the parish may offer a food/clothing bank or provide a warm hub and coffee morning.

We would love for you to get in touch with us to share and celebrate your stories of working safely and caringly, or to make suggestions for good practice in our parishes.

We would like to feature some of these stories, with consent, in the Hallam Bridge.  If you would like to share with us please contact the safeguarding office via email: [email protected]

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Parish Safeguarding Rep then please contact the safeguarding office for more information about the role.

We currently have a number of vacancies in various parishes across the Diocese.
