Hallam Diocese Missio Mass was held on Saturday 21 September 2024 in the beautiful Catholic Church of Holy Rood, Barnsley.
Fr Dermot Byrne MHM was the visiting Mill Hill Missionary priest, supported by Deacon Paul Green and Fr Damian Humphries.
Fr Dermot preached, telling us about God’s call to him to missionary life and his response. He told us in an amused way that he had been hoping for a bit of a dramatic working life but had instead provided teaching for seminarians in Uganda for many years. But with joy he was able to say that he had learned that every small part of his life of service he knew was important for the mission of spreading the Good News of the Gospel. He thanked Hallam Diocese for their contribution of money and prayers. (Last year Hallam contributed £37,388 from Red Missio Box donations.) After Mass, the kind parishioners of Holy Rood provided refreshments and there was time to hear from each other and drink tea. Supporters from across the diocese joined the conversations and Teresa from Missio thanked everyone for coming and directed those wanting to know more about the work of Missio to look at this year’s Impact report.
