St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School 50th Anniversary.

This year the staff, pupils and community of St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School celebrated 50 years of the school existing on its current site of Firshill Crescent in Sheffield. The current building was opened by Bishop Moverly in 1974. Prior to this the school was located on Andover Street on land donated by the Duke of Norfolk.

Staff and pupils started the year of celebration with a thanksgiving Mass in school which was celebrated by Bishop Ralph and Father Albert Savaille. This was attended by members of the community including past pupils, past headteachers and governors. Children in school took on a central role by reading and leading the singing.
Later in the year the celebrations continued with a 50th anniversary summer fair where pupils sang, danced, and performed for the community. The Mini Vinnies chaplaincy team highlighted the importance of the Jubilee year by sharing the school’s Jubilee Pledge with the community. In the run up to the fair, children in school had been working hard on a homework project creating a piece of work around St Catherine’s school or on one of the decades it had been open. These were on display around the school hall for the parents and community to admire.
