The Permanent Deacons of Hallam Diocese gathered together with Bishop Ralph at Sacred Heart Church, Hillsborough, on 4th October, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, to renew their ordination vows.
The Diocesan Deacon’s chose this date to renew their vows before the Bishop as St. Francis was a deacon himself, and his life, especially his humble, Christ-like service and love for the poor, meant he set a good example. He exhibited the heart of a deacon.
Father Michael Umameh, the newly appointed Director of Deacons, preached the homily, reminding our Deacons of the three-fold nature of their ministry of service; to Word, Altar and Charity. Let us ask our loving and generous Father to bless our Diocese of Hallam, by raising up faith filled and dedicated Priests, Deacons and Religious. We pray for all those who are called to serve.
