Presentations of the Guild Of St.Stephen Silver Medal of Merit

The Archconfraternity of St. Stephen recognised the loyal service at the Holy Altar of two long-standing parish MC’s in the Diocese.

Peter Heath and Peter Tickle were presented with Silver Medals of Merit in recognition of 40 years service at the Lord’s Altar respectively. Rev Deacon Tony Strike, the Diocesan Director of the Guild of St Stephen, attended Masses for the blessing and presentation of the medals.

Peter Heath received his medal at St Mary Magdalene, Cudworth, on Saturday 7 October 2023 at the 6:00 pm Mass. Peter Tickle received his medal at St Teresa’s Darton at the 9:30am Mass on Sunday 8 October 2023.

The Guild of St Stephen is an International Organisation of Altar Servers founded in England in 1904. The objectives of the Guild are:

  • To encourage the highest standards of serving at the Church’s liturgy and so contribute to the whole community’s participation in the worship of God.
  • To provide altar servers with a greater understanding of what they are doing so that they may serve with increasing reverence and prayerfulness.
  • To unite servers of different parishes and dioceses for their mutual support and encouragement.

Over 30 parishes in the Diocese are affiliated to the Guild, some for over 70 years and others more recently affiliated, and have been enrolling new Servers, presenting them with the Guild Medal.
