Day of Prayer at the Shrine of Our Lady of Doncaster, Saturday 24th October 2026
There is wonderful day planned for a very special Diocesan Day of Prayer at the Shrine of Our Lady of Doncaster in St Peter in Chain’s Church which will take place on Saturday 24th October.
The day will be dedicated to learning about our pre reformation Shrine to Our Lady in Doncaster as well as the Padley martyrs, Eucharistic adoration, Holy Mass, reconciliation and rosary. The objectives are to highlight the importance of the shrine and local martyrs for the faith, to unify across Diocesan boundaries, to assist with ecumenism and most importantly, for devotion to Our Lady. In this, we hope to leave a lasting legacy with dedicated prayers and music.
Music
We can promise that the music will be first class with two brand new hymns to Our Lady of Doncaster getting their debut. The music will be arranged by Sally Glennon-Frain who will have the wonderful Dana leading important parts of the service.
Our Special Guest, Dana (Rosemary Scallon)
We are honoured that Dana is coming to our very beautiful shrine. Dana is a well-known singer, songwriter and former politician who rose to prominence in 1970 having won the Eurovision song contest in front of an audience of 400 million viewers! She is a committed Catholic of great faith and was recently awarded the honour of Dame of St Gregory by Pope Francis. She has sung for Saint John Paul II on seven separate occasions and for Pope Benedict XVI and lots of Catholics will be familiar with her series” The Rosary” where she teamed up with Father Kevin Scallon CM to produce a series of beautiful renditions of the rosary and has composed many well-known hymns including the World Youth Day theme song, “We are One Body”, “Our Lady of Knock and “Totus Tuus” with her husband Damien Scallon. We can promise that the music will be first class with two brand new hymns to Our Lady of Doncaster getting their debut.
Media Involvement
We have two TV companies filming the event. Irish TV will be filming which will be available on SKY TV and online the following month. Shalom TV will be filming the whole day and that will be streamed worldwide which is just fabulous.
Novena to Our Lady of Doncaster
A novena has been specially written for the occasion and parishes have been asked to start on the 22nd August for nine weeks which happens to be the feast day of the Queenship of Our Lady. The Novena has been received positively, even with our non-Catholic friends.
Interest beyond Hallam Diocese
There are pledges and groups to join us from outside the Diocese of Hallam including from Halifax, Middlesborough, Liverpool, Scarborough, Nottingham, Grimsby, Leicester and Ireland. We will also be welcoming members of other faith groups who are taking part such is the attraction of this very special day.
