On the Retirement of Fr KIlgannon

It was a bitter-sweet celebration at the weekend, when Fr. K said his last Mass as Parish Priest of Mother of God.
I was fortunate enough to speak from the altar at the celebration of this Golden Jubilee ten years ago, and with minor updates I would like to repeat what I said then. We have been fortunate to have the pastoral care of Fr. K for almost fifty years. It has been almost fifty years of sharing our joys and supporting us in our darkest and most difficult times. Almost fifty years of bringing faith, bringing hope and most of all bringing love.
We shall miss the way he says “apostle”, “confirm” and “safety”, but so much more will we miss the kindness, the caring, the thoughtfulness, the energy and the love that he has brought to the job he loved so much.
We hope he has the happy and healthy retirement which he so richly deserves.
Thanks for everything, Father.-
