My God I am yours for time and eternity…

Was the refrain of the Sisters as they sang the Suscipe of Catherine McAuley at the Thanksgiving Mass for the Ministry of the Sisters of Mercy in the Diocese of Hallam celebrated at St William of York, Sheffield on 17 November. Sr Clare and Sr Brendan were joined by other Sisters who had served in Denaby and Doncaster, together with sisters from Hull, Derby and Yeadon. In his homily Bishop John Rawsthorne spoke about the work that the Sisters had done over the past hundred and forty one years. In the world of education, by founding schools in Doncaster and Sheffield, and in healthcare in their work at Claremont Hospital and their active involvement in the foundation of St Luke’s Hospice. More particularly he spoke about their simple witness to Gospel values in caring for the needy and their constant prayer in many locations around the diocese.

The Mass was followed by refreshments in the parish hall and an opportunity to

Give thanks with a grateful heart;
give thanks to the holy one.
Give thanks because he’s given
Jesus Christ, his Son.
