Mgr Peter Kirkham RIP

The diocese is sad to announce the death of Rev Monsignor Peter Laurence Kirkham formerly parish priest of St Jude’s Parish, Worksop.

Fr Peter was born on 15 April 1942 in Sheffield. He went to school at De la Salle, Sheffield and trained for the priesthood at the Venerable English College in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood in Rome on 20 February 1966. He returned to the diocese of Leeds and served curacies in English Martyrs, York; St Peter and Paul, Sandal; and St Thomas More, Sheffield. In 1982 he was appointed as parish priest of St Joseph’s, Staveley and ten years later to St Michael’s, Wombwell. In 1997 he was appointed to St Joseph’s, Worksop and, in 2002, he was took responsibility for St Mary’s Worksop. In 2012 he was appointed as the first parish priest of the newly founded parish of St Jude which was formed from the former parishes of Worksop, Oldcotes and Harworth. He retired from active ministry in June 2020 and continued to reside at St Joseph’s. He died peacefully on the morning of 24 November 2023 at Bassetlaw Hospital.

6:00 pm Reception into St Joseph’s Church, Worksop, followed by Mass.
Tuesday 12 December
12:.00 noon Requiem Mass at St Joseph’s Church, Worksop, followed by Interment at St Mary’s Church, Worksop.
Following the interment, a Reception will be held at the Catholic Club, St Joseph’s Church, Worksop.
