Catholic Union “Pub Talk” with Ann Widdecombe

Sponsored by the Universe Catholic Weekly

The Catholic Union’s next “Pub Talk” will take place on Tuesday 6 June with The Rt Hon Ann Widdecombe as our guest speaker. The event is kindly sponsored by the Universe Catholic Weekly.

The former Conservative MP and Government Minister, has agreed to talk about being a Catholic in public life. Most recently, Ms Widdecombe served as a Brexit Party MEP and earlier this year announced that she had joined Reform UK.

The Catholic Union’s “Pub Talk” events are aimed at people with a background or interest in politics and public affairs, but are open to everyone. The events provide an informal opportunity for networking and discussion, and the chance to hear from a guest speaker.

The latest “Pub Talk” builds on the success of the first two events with Crossbench peer, Lord Alton, and former Labour MP and Government Minister, Ruth Kelly.

The event will be held in the upstairs room of the Windsor Castle pub near Westminster Cathedral. The event will start at 6pm, with the talk expected to begin at around 6.30pm. To attend the event, please sign up on Eventbrite or get in contact with the Catholic Union office.

Ann Widdecombe comments: “I’m very pleased to be joining the Catholic Union for this event. Faith is important to me and many other people in public life, but so often people don’t want to talk about it. As a Catholic being an MP had its challenges, but since then things have got much worse. In an age where it is becoming harder to say what you believe and where even your thoughts can be queried, it’s vital that we stand our ground and not allow ourselves to be censored out of public life. I hope this event will inspire others to get involved.”

James Somerville-Meikle, Deputy Director of the Catholic Union, comments: “We’re delighted that Ann has agreed to join us for our next Pub Talk. Ann has been at the heart of political life in this country for over five decades. She has served as a local councillor, MP and Government Minister, and more recently in the European Parliament. Throughout that time, Ann has been a staunch defender of her Catholic faith, often saying things that others dare not. I know she is an inspiration to many people and we’re thrilled that she has agreed to join us for our next Pub Talk.”
