Sadly, Christine McBride passed away on Friday 15th December 2023 at home after a long illness. Her funeral took place on Monday 8January 2024 at St.Peter-in-Chains, Doncaster. Holy Mass was celebrated by Father Darren Reid assisted by Fr Gus O’Reilly and Fr James Daly who had travelled from Ireland. Her son Mark gave the eulogy and there were tributes from Christine’s grandchildren. Christine was one of eight children. She and her late husband Brendan moved from Ireland with their three children and lived in Doncaster for 60 years.
Christine’s Catholic faith was unwavering and she contributed hugely to the Parish. She was a central figure in the Union of Catholic Mothers for many years, supporting the Parish alongside many of her closest friends. For the last four years she was Foundation President.
Christine and Brendan, who was one of eleven children were very proud of their Irish heritage and were key members of the Doncaster Irish Society. There was a magnificent attendance at the funeral which included her extended family of nieces and nephews some having travelled from Ireland, also friends and UCM members.
She was a lovely lady, great company and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends especially for her wonderful sense of humour. May she rest in the peace.
