Hallam Catholic Safeguarding Commission
Recruitment of Chair
The Hallam Catholic Safeguarding Commission wishes to recruit a new
independent Chair. This is a volunteer role for a lay person who will be
committed to implementing “Towards a Culture of Safeguarding” and have
current experience in safeguarding work with children and/or adults who may
be at risk.
The successful applicant will not be part of the Diocesan hierarchy or
management structure and will join the Commission at an exciting time in the
development of safeguarding within the Catholic Church of England & Wales.
Appointees should demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and experience:
Recent or current experience in safeguarding in either statutory services – social
work, health, probation, police, or a relevant voluntary agency, with ideally an
appropriate professional qualification.
A confident leadership style with the ability to effectively manage meetings and
build capacity and consensus within the Commission.
An ability to promote and represent the Commission and its Safeguarding activities
at all levels within the Diocese and externally as required.
Experience of membership, governance and contribution to Committees, Boards,
Experience of strategic planning, risk management and promoting standards.
Knowledge of the strategic context of safeguarding within the Church.
