The Parish community of Our Lady and St Thomas in Sheffield and other friends came together to celebrate Fr Stepehen Ssekiwunga’s ordination anniversary on the the Feast of St Dominic, 8 August 2022. It was great to be able to come together on this occasion to celebrate Fr Stephen’s ministry in the parish, which started two years ago, in the midst of lockdown.
In his homily Fr Stephen talked about some of the joys and difficulties that he had experienced in responding to the call to priesthood but reminded us, that when God calls us, then many obstacles will not prevent us from responding to that call and discovering great joy.
He talked about those who had accompanied him in his journey to priesthood and asked those present to also pray for his thirteen classmates who were ordained with him in 2009. He thanked parishioners from Our Lady and St Thomas and other places where he has ministered for caring for him as a member of the family.
After the celebration of Mass, food was shared and we were taught a song in Lugandan and some traditional Ugandan dancing.
