On today’s Friday Faces we have chosen to reflect on the Mercy shown by Richard Moore. In 1972, aged 10, Richard Moore, was walking home from school in Northern Ireland when he was shot by a solider with a rubber bullet. Richard was left completely blind from this traumatic accident. When he grew up he went and met the solider that shot him, Richard forgave instantly. From childhood to the present day, he has never allowed bitterness to stunt his development. “I learned to see life in a different way,” is how he describes his remarkable acceptance of what, for most, would be a debilitating trauma.
He is now the founder of the charity ‘Children in Crossfire’ which exists to make a significant and lasting contribution towards putting an end to poverty. As well as this, in 38 years of blindness he has become a husband, father, musician, folk group leader and businessman.
Once again affirming that with God’s love and mercy, we can overcome anything.
